DEBORAH BY H.B. MOORE

47405881. sy475

ABOUT THE BOOK

From 4-time Whitney Award winning author, H.B. Moore, comes the new biblical novel about Deborah the Judge, a woman who rises from oppression and leads her entire nation to victory.

After years of mistreatment, the Israelites prepare to defend themselves against the oppressive Canaanites. Readying for war not only takes secret military training but also an Israelite leader who is willing to both stand against generations of oppression and follow God.

Deborah, a young Israelite woman, lives a quiet and isolated life with her father and brothers. As a shepherdess in the hills near her home, she knows well the perils of her work. But when faced with incredible danger, she witnesses a series of remarkable events that preserve her life. The hand of the Lord is apparent, and it is clear that hers will be no ordinary life.
Years later, Deborah is a faithful wife and mother when she learns that the Third Judge of Israel has died--and she has been called to take his place. It is a tumultuous time in history, and soon, Deborah--prophetess, judge, and military leader--faces a seemingly insurmountable task: alongside the commander of the Israelite army, Deborah must lead ten thousand soldiers in their final campaign against their Canaanite oppressors with only her faith in God to guide her.

MY REVIEW

If you're a fan of Biblical fiction like me then you'll love this story about Deborah.

Taken from the book of Judges Deborah was Israel's 4th prophet.
I think it's amazing how all of these authors can take the characters from the Bible and let us readers get to know them personally. This is Biblical fiction at it's finest and it is well worth the read and yes even rereading!!
This is the 1st book I've read by this author and I was hooked!
I spent most of the night reading this book. I was taken back to Biblical times and felt like I was invisible by Deborah's side as the battle with the Cannanites and truly felt God's power as He helped His ppl. I was like get get him! I was hooting and hollering until my husband told me to be quiet and that he was trying to sleep but I just stuck my tongue out at him lol!! He really doesn't know what he's missing by not liking to read. I feel sorry for him. My son only reads when he has to. But anyway, this is story you won't soon forget! It will leave you thinking about it long after it's over. I hope this book will bless you and remind you of God's love for us.
I think this is the most exciting biblical story I've read in awhile.

Praise for The Secret Life of Mrs. London

“An impressively original and exceptionally well-crafted novel by an author who is a master of character- and narrative-driven storytelling, Rebecca Rosenberg’s The Secret Life of Mrs. London is an inherently riveting and thoroughly reader-engaging story from beginning to end and feature[es] many an unexpected plot twist and turn.” —Midwest Book Review “Interesting, and based on the actual lives of the participants…Learning more about Jack London was enjoyable, as well as seeing early feminist examples.” —Historical Novel Society “…Rosenberg paints an immensely intriguing portrait of a marriage and tells it in an accomplished lyrical prose that captures each moment with poetic intensity.” —Prairies Book Review “The Secret Life of Mrs. London is a riveting behind-the-scenes look at the marriage of Jack and Charmian London, both fascinating and complicated characters with rich inner lives that Rosenberg conveys in crisp yet poetic prose. This contemporary historical fiction raises questions that are still relevant today about what makes a good marriage, and whether creativity and stability are incompatible. A rich, resonant, deeply satisfying novel sure to delight and leave readers thinking long after they put it down.” —Malena Watrous, author of If You Follow Me and Sparked!, and director of the Stanford Continuing Studies Program in Novel Writing “The Secret Life of Mrs. London is a heart-wrenching portrait of a marriage between two people who utterly depend on one another, but ultimately aren’t enough for each other. With skillful precision of language, Rosenberg weaves a narrative that defines the complexities of love, passion, and art. This is a perceptive, deeply moving novel by a great new talent about a couple who has gone unnoticed in historical fiction until now. Anyone who has ever loved another person will want to read this book.” —Victoria Kelly, author of Mrs. Houdini: A Novel “One of Houdini’s best kept secrets was his affair with Charmian London in 1918. Now Rebecca Rosenberg tells the story using an elegant blend of fact and fiction, creating a Houdini book like no other. The Secret Life of Mrs. London is a true peek behind the curtain and a page-turner.” —John Cox, Wild about Harry

MY REVIEW

A fascinating look at Jack London and his 2nd wife Charmain who were both writers
I'm like a lot of other people who've read Jack London's Call of the Wild which is a true classic in itself. Except that I haven't read it since I was in high school and once as a young woman

Rebbeca has done a great job in her research amd this is the result. To be able to bring these fascinating characters alive with a wonderful plot is really amazing!! I love talented authors like this. Her writing is definitely a work of art!
This story takes place on the brink of what is now known as The Great War.

While I really enjoyed getting to know Jack and Charmaine, I think I loved Harry Houdini and Bessie best!!
I would love to have been alive to see Houdini perform!! The best magician ever! But since I wasn't this book allowed me to do that. I felt like I was held in a trance while I watched him perform. I love magic shows. For some reason they fascinate me.
I would love to see a magic show since I haven't seen one in quite awhile.

Sometimes we have to take the path that is meant for us. I understand fearing everything you might lose is imperative but sometimes like my preacher said you have to get rid of the negative in your life in order to allow yourself some inner peace.
Will Charmaine allow herself to do this or will she give in to the urge to explore something that is not allowed and threatens her loyalty to Jack whose behavior that is growing out of control?
Y'all need to pick up this fabulous historical novel and be swept back to London in 1915! Trust me you won't want to come back to 2019.

I love the cover too! The title goes great with the story inside!

My thanks to the author for a copy of this book. NO compensations were received. All opinions are my own

MY REVIEW

I loved this story by Denise!! She's one to watch in the future for more outstanding books such as this! Her writing and research is truly amazing!

Have you ever felt that you left something undone because something happened or God just shut the door in your face and said no more? I have many times and this last time was a bust. Wow!! I'm up in airs about what to do now because I'm not sure how I should proceed. I've prayed and prayed but He hasn't answered yet. But when the time is right He will. Might not be what I want to hear but... So in this way I feel just like Clarissa and John did!! My heart ached for them!

God can take bad and use it for good just like in the story. We only need to be patient. Once a seed has been planted it's up to the people to see if it grows or not. God does work in mysterious ways.

As I read this book it certainly had me thinking! Especially about the what ifs.

I knew about the earthquakes of 1811-12 but I didn't know that they stretched down into Georgia!

Georgia has a fascinating history as do all the states but I was more interested in this state. The names were a little hard to pronounce but that is because they're Indian names.

I believe that on our way to Florida we even ran across the names of the river and the creeks. Of course! We had to cross over them! I can't imagine what it must've been like when there were no bridges to cross like there is now.
Georgia is a beautiful state. I think I'd like to go back and explore it more.
I applaud the missionaries. They've done remarkable works. It takes a brave soul to do what they've done. Especially back in those days. We never know what we might find.
And here's a hard truth There's good and bad in everyone. Not just certain ones! My son keeps reminding me of that. People will be people.
My thanks to the author and Singing Librarians for a copy of this book. NO compensations were received and all opinions are my own. Sorry so lengthy

MY REVIEW

I give this book 5 stars simply for the historical aspect of it.

The writing is slow but we learn how it was for the Indians.

I liked being in the Indians' camp and listening to them tell stories. They have families just like we do. I felt like I made friends with them.

Life has everyday challenges for Wanders Far. But then life does for every single person even in today's world.
I enjoyed learning about Wanders Far. His life's journey was fascinating. How interesting it must've been to live back even before the colonists did! I felt like I was seeing it through Wanders Fars' eyes for the 1st time! Just wow!
The story was entertaining and I learned much.
I strongly recommend this book! You will learn much!
I will look for more from this author in the future. This book was fabulous!

About the Author

After a chaotic day as a business person, Dave enjoys getting lost in the settings he imagines and spending time with the characters he creates. Writing historical fiction is like making paintings of the past. He loves to weave fact and fiction together, stirring in action, adventure, romance, and a heavy dose of the supernatural with the hope of transporting the reader to another time and place. He is an Adirondack 46-er, which means he has hiked all of the highest peaks in New York State, so it should not be surprising when Dave attempts to glorify hikers as swashbuckling superheroes in his writing. Wanders Far—An Unlikely Hero’s Journey is the first in a series of books in the Adirondack Spirit Series.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Jason Jennings made a tough call two years ago when he left behind his status as a

hard-partying star quarterback in order to serve the Lord. Recently returned from a mission now, he's ready to get back on the football field at UCAL. But despite turning his life around, his bad boy reputation is proving hard to shake.

Allie Hollis is everything a cheerleader should be--beautiful, outgoing, and smart--but her brilliant smile hides a devastating secret. So when Jason begins to show interest in her, there's no question: her answer is no.

Yet, in the face of Allie's chilly response, Jason's gentle persistence pays off, and a tentative friendship grows. Their chemistry is obvious, but Allie's determination to steer clear of a relationship with Jason goes deeper than he realizes. When the truth of her painful history comes to light, the couple must decide whether they will remain on the sidelines or jump back in the game of love.

MY REVIEW

I loved loved this book.
She's a new to me author. But what I liked about her writing was adding the quotes and definitions that she has put in italics at the beginning of each chapter.
What I really don't care for is the present tense genre.
First person is my favorite if that makes any sense.
This is a centered Latter Day Saints novel. But, as long as the story is good it doesn't matter to me. I love a good story especially one that can make you tear up.
The author has done a fabulous job in telling these two young people's story just trying to get through life.
She has shown us that even though we think we can bury our secrets deep down, there's always something that will trigger it.
Secrets always come out of the wash so to speak. And anyways you can't keep secrets from the One who knows. He knows everything.
We can't erase the past. It makes us who we are. I like to think that it will help make us a better person in the future with God's help of course.
Even though we have commited ourselves to Christ we are human.
We will mess up a time or two. Or whichever the case may be. Jesus understands this. I'm so glad He's my friend and Savior!! There's none other than Jesus!!
Will these two find love and happiness? Can they overcome their past?
My thanks to Covenant Communications for a complimentary copy of this book. No compensations were received and all opinions are my own!!

MY REVIEW FOR ALWAYS

Loved this book so much!! I stayed up all night even though I was still tired from my trip to Michigan!

The story was delightful and so many adventures!! I was kept on the edge of my seat and holding my breath to see what happens next!! Jody does have that effect on us.
That's what I love about her writings.
With God all things are possible. All we need to do is ask!!
Trouble is, a lot of people myself included think they can do it all on their own. At some point and time we're all going to need devine intervention from the Lord to help us out.
I'm thinking that Lance finally figures this one out. I had a feeling it was going to take something drastic to make him see.
I think my favorite is Felicity. She's brave, strong, caring and can adjust to certain situations if need be. That's my kind of lady.
I love being kept up late into the evening and then cry bc my adventure is over!!
Well done Jody Hedlund!!!
I strongly recommend this book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. No compensations were received and all opinions are my own!!

MY REVIEW FOR EVERMORE

Another wow for Jody Hedlund! She delivers yet another exciting medevil tale and doesn't disappoint!!

Adelaide certainly has her work cut out for her that's for sure!!
She's quite a handful and is hardheaded at times but at the same time I love her generosity towards the poor folk of the kingdom.
I think she would make a fine queen that ppl would come to admire and love her for who she truly is.
This story is full of action everytime you turn around and that is what I like in a book.
I was rooting for Adelaide and Christopher the whole entire time!!
Jody does a find job of showing good vs evil. Evil never wins! In so glad aren't you?
I also love the forgiveness theme in this book as well. It is very true that if you can't forgive then it eats away at you and u will never find peace.
It is more for you than for the other person.
I strongly recommend reading these novellas first!! You'll be glad you did!!
I received a complimentary copy and no compensations were received. All opinions are my own!!
