This past weekend my family and I took a trip to Michigan. ( For those of you that don't know, that's my happy place)!
Earlier in the morning we went to the Soo Locks in Sault St. Marie, Michigan. My has it ever changed!! Then we looked over and seen the International Bridge. What a sight!!
But, the Mighty Mac will always be my favorite!!
We also got to witness one of the tour boats going through the Soo Locks. We didn't go because we thought we had to have a passport. But, I did stick my hand over the fence into Canada lol!!
Tour boat going through the Soo Locks
Here we are with a big freighter behind us on the St. Mary's River
After We left St. Mary's River we went on to Lake Superior which is my favorite lake in the whole world!!
Michael and I walked along the shore and picked up a few colorful rocks. We made sure we picked up the small ones. You know heavy the big ones can get lol! In other words, being greedy. I think we stayed there for a least 2 hrs listening to the waves crash against the shore. Such a soothing sound.I even said a prayer or two while I was sitting on the beach watching my boys. I told Michael not to loose his glasses. Every time we go near water Michael manages to loose them.
MEET LAKE SUPERIOR!!
MY BOYS BY THE LAKE SUPERIOR THEY REALLY LIKED IT TOO!!
LINED UP TO GET ON THE OTTAWA FORMERLY FROM THE ARNOLD LINE
NOW WE ARE WAITING TO DEPART FROM ST. IGNACE
For the most part, we did enjoy it especially our Sunset Cruise on Aug 2nd at 8:30 in the evening.'
It always amazes me that they know exactly what time the sun goes down but I guess they've been doing it a long time! Heck, they were doing it when I went on one at 9 years of age with my own family.I think my boys enjoyed it. Especially Michael. That's the one who I was hoping would. The cruise took about 1 and 30 minutes and then we saw fireworks afterwards! What a treat!! And standing on the Ottowa with our captain Mr. Ed and crew. Missy was a trip. When I looked behind me, there she was just a dancing away with the music lol!! I laughed out loud! Michael just shook his head as most teens do. I do know one thing!! It was ccccooooolllddd!! on the lake in the evening! Everyone had a sweatshirt of some kind on the boat ride. Everyone except us. I felt kind of foolish but when you're living in the South you don't think about things like that.
GETTING READY TO GO UNDER THE MACKINAC BRIDGE
Going under the bridge is the amazing part. Everyone was like ooohh and aaawww!! It fascinates me how that bridge has withstood the test of time and what things she must've seen!! I'm not sure but I think we even went over the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. It was some kind of shipwreck. they didn't say which one. I think the Edmund sank in Lake Superior though. I'd bet my money on it I was disappointed that the Northern Lights didn't show while we were there. I did see a shooting star the Observation Center in Mackinaw City. Now that was awesome!!
LIGHTHOUSE AT ST. IGNANCE, MICHIGAN
One of the lighthouses of St. Ignace Michigan. It was shining when we got back into the dock about 11p.m. that evening. We walked to the end of the lighthouse and all you could see was Lake Huron everywhere you looked was water. Fresh lake water that is.
CAUGHT THIS MAGNIFICENT SIGHT
Tried to get this bridge at night but we didn't do so well.
All in all it was a wonderful trip but if I had known I was going to be doing all the driving up and back plus all the delays on 75 up and back I don't think I would have went. But, you know what, I'm glad I did because who knows when we'll get back up here. We never did make it over to Mackinac Island. We were busy doing other things!! I'm just glad that God has blessed us with this wonderful trip before Michael went back to school.
Beautiful pictures! It looks like it was an awesome trip! I'm a lifelong horse lover, so I also wanted to say that I really like your t-shirt! :D
